Academic Support

Throughout high school, students may benefit from additional resources to support their academic success. At Westview, we offer a range of resources to help students build confidence, strengthen skills, and stay on track academically. The list below highlights the different support services available to help students succeed.

Wolverine Tutoring

Free tutoring options are available on campus in a variety of subject areas. Peer Tutoring is held in the library from 3:45 - 5:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
We also offer one-on-one tutoring. Students can use our One-on-One Tutoring Request form to request this service.

Wolverine Time

Wolverine Time is held three times per week for 30 minutes during the regular school day. This period provides students with the opportunity to meet with their teachers to address questions or academic concerns. Teachers may also designate Wolverine Time for targeted academic support. In addition, students may use this time to study independently, complete assignments, or collaborate with peers in study groups. For further information, please contact your student’s teacher directly.

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID is a college preparatory program designed to support students who show strong potential for success in higher education. The goal of the program is to ensure that all participants are eligible for admission to a four-year college. Students typically qualify if they meet two of the following criteria: low socio-economic status, first-generation college student, or maintaining a 2.5–3.5 grade point average. AVID provides the skills, guidance, and support necessary to help students reach their academic goals and prepare for future opportunities.

Academic Success Class

The mission of the Academic Success class is to effectively reconnect our kids to the student experience. We hope to do so through building trust, setting expectations and continually providing them with the support they need. Students in Academic Success will learn the basic skills of organization and effective decision making as well as work on Basic Literacy Skills. Completing coursework and studying for current classes are among the students responsibilities. Through these measures we expect our students will achieve success.

Academic Success - Math Support Class

The mission of the class is to support study and organizational skills while students are concurrently enrolled in an in-person Integrated Ia-Ib, Integrated IIa-IIb or Integrated IIIa-IIIb class at Westview High School. Completing coursework and studying for the current classes are among the student responsibilities with a focus on the concurrent math class so that the math teacher in the Academic Success class can introduce vocabulary and refresh skills in order to support the students in their math class happening later in the day.

Summer School

The Poway Unified School District offers summer school to current high school students (i.e., students who are enrolled in grades 9 - 12 during the following school year). High school summer school is not available to students who are current 8th grade students. Courses will be offered primarily for credit recovery. Please check with your counselor for summer school dates and deadlines, class options, and enrollment information. For additional information, please visit the PUSD Summer School website.
